Our Cairns trip began with a simple, relaxed first day in the city centre, soaking up the tropical atmosphere and wandering through the markets. Cairns Night Markets are right in the heart of the city, with dining, shopping, and plenty of energy all under one roof.
Arriving in Cairns City
After arriving in Cairns, we kept our first day light and easy by heading straight into the city centre. It was the perfect way to settle in, get our bearings, and start the trip with a slower pace before the bigger adventures ahead. The Cairns Esplanade is one of the city’s main waterfront areas, making it a great place to stroll and take in the tropical vibe.
A Walk Through the Markets
One of the highlights of the day was exploring the local markets. If you’re visiting during the right days, Rusty’s Markets is a Cairns favourite for fresh produce, snacks, and local flavour, open Friday to Sunday in the city centre. For an evening wander, the Cairns Night Markets are a major draw, open daily and located on the Esplanade in central Cairns.
