A bit of confession: this is a late post about our Sunday at Kumbira Cafe & Grill in Altona and I’m extra hungry while typing this tonight because, oh well… lechon flashbacks. 😅
Spontaneous Sunday in Altona
Last Sunday, 19th April, my friends and I took a trip to Altona Beach and popped into Kumbira Cafe for a relaxed Filipino feast. The café is cozy, clean, and just a short walk from the beach, with a warm, family‑driven vibe that instantly feels like home.
We went because one thing I’ve been missing lately… a legit lechon. I’ve been seeing heaps of posts about @kumbiracafe , so we had to try it. After all the hype, we finally went all in and ordered the crispy lechon and honestly, it was worth every bite.🤤
Even though it’s all the way in Altona, we made the trip via public transport with friends coming from Sunshine, Footscray (tho not too far), and even Croydon (this!) 😂 worth every minute!
Crispy Lechon & What to Expect
The lechon here is a star!! It did not disappoint, the golden, crackling skin, juicy meat, and that sour‑sweet atchara on the side makes it feel like a proper kumbira (Filipino feast). Lechon delivered 💯 but we also tried their tilapia (special menu forgot the exact name 😅) and talong and it was just as good. Everything!
Here’s the proof lol -> @sejm___
If you’re planning a visit, prepare at least 40–50 dollars per person for a comfortable order (main + sides + drinks). And yes if you’re as obsessed with lechon as I am, make sure you order the lechon, it’s quickly becoming a must‑try.
Quality AND quantity ✅ definitely coming back to try more.
Friendly, Unhurried Vibe
We booked a table in advance, and even on a Sunday, it wasn’t super busy, so we didn’t wait too long for our food.
What made it extra special wasn’t just the food, but the people. The staff were super warm and homie, and we even got to chat with the owner about their humble beginnings and how they’ve centered everything on Him 🙏 that personal touch really hits different. It’s the kind of place where you happily meet new food‑obsessed friends, share plates, and feel like you’re part of a little Sunday family.
Shoutout to Victoria’s public transport for making food trips like this possible 🚆✨
